The southeast economy created 1,400 jobs in January. The latest numbers from Statistics Canada came out this morning.

The increase dropped the unemployment rate for the region from 4.9 percent in December, to 4.3 percent. The region had one of the biggest declines in unemployment in the province, which saw a drop of 0.1 percent to 5.5 percent.

The national unemployment rate went up in January, with more people beginning to look for work. The national rate saw a slight increase to 5.8 percent. This, despite the economy creating more than 66,000 jobs across the province.
