It was an opportunity of a lifetime for a group of students from Weyburn Comprehensive Choir.

The WCS STARS Choir won a contest and had the chance to perform on stage with legendary rock band Foreigner in Regina Monday night.

Colleen Weimer, the Choir Teacher for STARS, explained they took a chance on entering the contest.

"It feels awesome, it's very exciting. It was sort of a shot in the dark. We just thought we'd throw our name in the bucket, throw our video in,” Weimer said. "We got chosen as one of the top three and then after voting, we found out we won the competition, we're just really, really excited."

Weimer related how a few people had emailed her from the community to ask if she had seen the details about the competition and then some of the students did too.

"We looked into it and thought let's give it a try."

The students did the editing and made the video which went on to win. The song choice was "I Want To Know What Love Is," a number one hit for Foreigner in 1984, around 15+ years before the birth of any of students in the choir.

As for the show itself, Grade 12 student Cameron MacMurchy actually had tickets to see Foreigner and was in the crowd before getting on stage with the choir.

“I lost my voice singing along in the concert itself and then when I was up there it came back to me then disappeared again,” he said laughing.

Brayden King is a massive fan of Foreigner and when he got off stage he said he couldn’t believe what had just happened.

“Not a chance, I didn’t think this would ever happen and when the contest came along I figured ‘let’s go for it’ and here we are and it was an amazing experience,” he said.

Singing in front of a crowd of thousands of people was a thrill that these teenagers will remember for a long time.
