Saskatchewan could be in for a bumpy ride today, as a low-pressure system that wreaked havoc in Alberta makes its way east.

Terri Laing is with Environment Canada, She explained they have been watching the system.

“We’re looking for a lot of severe weather to develop today. Showers, thundershowers, and the possibility of severe weather,” Laing explained. “Mostly through the southern third of Saskatchewan, that risk of severe weather.”

The change in weather could be seen as a relief for some, as it will bring some much-needed precipitation to the province, which has been enduring some of the driest weather in nearly thirty years. The temperatures have also been up in the 30’s for much of the past week and a half.

Laing said with the possibility of the storms coming through today, one needs to plan accordingly, and watch the skies. She recommended being ready to change plans at a moment’s notice, depending on the weather conditions, and stay up to date with latest forecasts.

Behind the system could be some relief from the heat. Daytime highs are expected to be below the 30° mark on Tuesday and Wednesday, a drop from the mid-30’s we have been experiencing for the past ten days.
