The population of Bengough is 350 and yet this weekend that number is expected to grow by over ten times that amount.

The Gateway Festival is in its 13th year and attracts a lot of people who descend upon the Bengough community annually.

"Our grocery store benefits from all the campers that come in, the park benefits from all the additional camping," said Festival Organisers Lori Whyte and Delee Foley who expect the local economy to benefit.

The community only has 29 regular camping sites but overflow has been provided for the thousands of festival goers. The camping sites have been improved which should bring in some extra money as well.

Local sports facilities such as the swimming pool, golf course, skating rink and curling rink are all expected to receive a boost from the revenues generated over the weekend.

Local businesses are not the only ones to benefit from the Festival.

A local Bengough church, St Michaels, are putting on a Pancake breakfast fundraiser each day, raising money for the building fund. Last year they raised funds in the region of $3000.

Foley and Whyte also spoke to the level of resident involvement as lots of people from the community have volunteered in some way to ensure a smooth running of this fun filled event.

Big Muddy, Willow Bunch, Ogema, Castle Butte and Kelly Caves are nearby tourist attractions and communities benefiting from festival goers.
