For those looking to enjoy the nice weather while it lasts, you can take part in a Storywalk set up by the Weyburn Public Library. In honour of the Treaty 4 Gathering, the Weyburn Public Library has set up a Storywalk featuring the book “Honouring the Buffalo: Plains Cree Legend” by Judith Silverthorne and Ray Lavellee.

This walk can be found at River Park, just across from the gazebo at the start of the Signal Hill Trail.

"For the past 30 years an annual gathering has taken place at the Qu'Appelle valley to reconnect, recognize and honour the spirit and intent of treaty four," explained Cora-Lynn Sexton, program director with the Weyburn Public Library. "This week-long takes place in the original site where Treaty 4 was entered into during the week of the anniversary when Treaty 4 was made."

While these activities normally took place in Qu'Appelle, there are some changes this year.

"This year because of COVID-19 they weren't able to have the activities they normally had," Cora-Lynn added. "So this year, we have some Storywalks!"

Instead of taking part in these activities, there will be pages of books set up on posts down the Signal Hill Trail. You can walk the trail then stop to read the pages from the books, providing a contact-free way to support and respect Indigenous authors.

The Storywalk will be up until Thursday, October 8 at 4:00 p.m.
