Work is getting started in Weyburn on two major projects: the lead service line replacement project, and the water meter replacement project.

Construction work for the lead service line replacement is slated to begin Thursday on South Hill. These are expected to continue for approximately three weeks, and the roads affected will be closed except for local traffic only.

The testing for lead water service lines is completed with 50 lines testing positive for lead. The City will now be going back to these impacted residences and commercial properties and replacing the service lines and the sewer lines at those locations.

The water meter replacement project will be handled by Corix, the company the city is acquiring the meters from. They will be launching a website which will have a scheduling component for homeowners.

The water meter replacement project is slated for completion in March 2018 with the final price tag for the project will be an initial $1,874,244. The water meters currently in place in Weyburn are due for replacement, due to age. The new meters will be more accurate and will have LTE technology allowing for updated usage statistics much faster. There may be changes to resident's water bills initially but not because of rate increases simply because these new meters are more accurate.

These projects are large improvements for Weyburn. Visit the City of Weyburn website for more information.
