“We need some action. We need things done. We need our pipelines built.”

Dale Mainil voicing some of his frustrations with the federal government as he gets ready to travel to Ottawa for the United We Roll rally on Parliament Hill next week.

Jerry Mainil Ltd is sending a truck to the rally as part of the convoy coming from Alberta. The crew, along with a grain truck from Terry Benning, are departing Weyburn Friday morning and linking up with the rest of the convoy in Virden, Manitoba, before making the rest of the trek to Ottawa. They are expected to reach the capital on Sunday, with the rally happening on Parliament Hill Tuesday and Wednesday.

The rally is to show support for the construction of pipelines to get oil from Western Canada to market, support for the resource industries such as mining and the oil sector, and to rally against the federal carbon tax.

“Federal policies are killing Western Canada, plain and simple,” offered Benning. While he doesn’t work in the oil industry, he knows the agricultural industry, which is a key part of the economy of the southeast, and Saskatchewan as a whole will be affected by the pending federal carbon tax, which is currently facing a court challenge in Regina.

“They’re going to hear our horns, our voices and our thunder coming that way,” added Mainil. He said they have the support of local Member of Parliament Robert Kitchen, and support from MP’s from across Western Canada, but Eastern MP’s need to know Western Canada matters.

"There’s too many people out of work in Western Canada,” Benning said. “Lots of these people are friends of mine, and we do matter out here. These guys gotta go to work. They just want to go to work.”
