Weyburn Credit Union is looking to bring the community together to collaborate on a mural next week. To coincide with Credit Union Day on Thursday, they will be starting the process of creating a work of art, which will see various members of the community chipping in.

It will begin with a photograph by Weyburn’s Tana Cugnet. The photo has yet to be seen by the public at large but has been described as a celebration of Weyburn.

“What we’re going to do is we’re going to take that photo and basically chop it up into little pieces, and give everybody a little piece, and they’ll recreate that piece on their canvas,” explained Tana Torkelson, who is the vice-president of marketing with Weyburn Credit Union.

Once the canvasses are completed, they will then be assembled together and displayed at the Credit Union Gallery.

For the event on Thursday, the public can come down when it works for them, and can then begin the process of creating the art.

“The good thing is, there is no artistic ability required,” Torkelson pointed out.

The project is being done in collaboration with the Weyburn Arts Council.
