An esteemed sports broadcaster, who started his career with our 1190 CFSL station in Weyburn, has died.

John Badham passed away in Peterborough Ontario today at the age of 79, leaving behind his wife Dot.

Badham rose to fame as a sports broadcaster covering a wide range of sporting events such as the Olympics, the Western Hockey League (WHL) and has been the voice of a number of Canadian Football League (CFL) teams including the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Badham had a 60-plus year career in Canadian broadcasting and last month received the Career Achievement Award from Sports Media Canada.

Badham passed away in the hospital after battling cancer for about two months.
