An influx of new membership is being sought by the Weyburn Artist Workshop group, formerly known as the Hilltop Painters.

President Shelley Herberholz said they're also hoping to find a new venue for their meetings.

"The members and I are looking for possible new venues to resume our weekly artistic endeavors," she shared. "We are also welcoming any new artisans in the area to contact us and think about joining our group."

She said between the sale of the Signal Hill Arts Centre and COVID, their group has not been meeting much over the past 18 months.

"The problem is some days only two or three of us show up, so we're just finding the rental too prohibitive at the [Credit Union] Spark Centre," Herberholz noted. "Our group is mostly retired people, so we were just finding that it was too prohibitive for us to pay."

In contrast, Herberholz said their weekly meetups at SHAC only costed them an annual fee.

"So we were very fortunate that we were able to do that for years," she commented.

The group has always gathered to share their process, inspire one other and, of course, learn new things together.

"We were always, you know, willing to help newcomers or trade ideas," she affirmed. "We used to meet every Tuesday morning for years and years, from about ninety 1991 until when Signal Hill was sold."

Depending on the new influx, their meeting time is, of course, flexible, as many of their retired membership, she added, have passed away, which is part of the reason they're putting out a call for new members. Ideally, they'll find someone with social media skills as well.
