The Weyburn Credit Union continuing to give back to the community. This week, they announced they were providing a $5,000 grant to Color My World Child Care.

The grant was provided through the Weyburn Credit Union’s Community Fund, something Tana Torkelson, the vice-president of marketing with Weyburn Credit Union, said is vital to their role in the community.

“Community involvement is a cornerstone of credit unions, it was one of the founding principles of when credit unions were first started, but we actually just redid our directional statements, like our vision and mission statements, and community is still something that resonates with our employees and our board.”

The grant was to help with renovations to the kitchen at Color My World. They had raised the majority of the funds needed for the renovations when like so many other renovations, they ran into unexpected costs.

“Because it was a project that was a bigger scope that was anticipated, that was when they came to us for help,” Torkelson explained.

The Community Fund helps provide grants for a variety of community organizations in Weyburn. The grants are typically for larger scale projects, which are self-sustaining and of a longer nature. This includes capital expenditures, and not operating funds.
