Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year, although the day surrounds American Thanksgiving, Canadian retailers have started participating by adding their own Black Friday deals.

"We really encourage our local businesses to offer deals and entice shoppers to really shop at home," says Twila Walkeden, Executive Director for the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce. "Whether they're looking at extending their hours, doing Black Friday specials, it's up to them, but I think we're really starting to see our local businesses starting to participate in these Black Friday."

It isn't simply the deals that bring people into stores, Walkeden mentions customers want more than that.

"Beyond getting a deal is having that experience that will have their customers coming back again and again," says Walkeden. "Customer service, maybe extra things they are doing, offering specials or hot cider, or something like that, it's really those small things that keep people coming back and keeps people shopping at local businesses."

With local businesses being the fabric of our community, citizens of Weyburn are encouraged to shop locally.
