The Weyburn Golf Club is looking to take care of major irrigation work and is asking the City of Weyburn for assistance in completing the task. The assistance? An interest-free loan of $900,000.

The request came to council via correspondence and was introduced as new business during the regular council meeting Monday night. Read into the record by City Manager Roy Hardy, it explained the work would be done on all 18 holes.

The Golf Club said they would put the property and all their buildings up as collateral and would make payments of $20,000 a year until it is paid off.

The request was set aside for the moment, and a motion was made to have council meet with the Golf Club to talk further about the request.

Earlier this year, the Weyburn Golf Club had approached Weyburn City Council about having the city take over the course. The idea was declined by the council.

Ed. Note - An earlier version of this story indicated the Weyburn Golf Club had not paid back taxes owed to the R.M. of Weyburn. Those arrears were paid off earlier this year.
