The Weyburn Humane Society announced this morning an urgent need for a new building for their animal shelter.

"Our present shelter is deteriorating rapidly. We have been repairing it as needed but we really need a new shelter," said WHS president Pam Arndt-Schick.

She said they have been fundraising for the past six years.

"We are still far from reaching our goal. At this time, we are now asking the public for your help in our future course of action," she said.

She said the existing building was built from a garage package.

"Volunteers just came and helped us put it together, and did the inside," she said. "It's just falling apart. You know, the wiring is old, the plumbing is old and it just doesn't meet our needs anymore."

They're considering two options: to build a new building or to purchase an existing one.

"Our decision will be made by determining how many donations we receive by December 31, 2019," said Arndt-Schick.

For more information or to donate, please contact the shelter at 306-848-7387.

Details on the fundraising goals and timelines are coming soon.
