Winter has Weyburn in its icy grips once again.

Weyburn and area are under an extreme cold weather advisory, with wind chill values around -40 degrees Celsius.

While we will see a small reprieve over the weekend, it will still be cold. John Paul Cragg, a regional meteorologist with Environment Canada, says residents could be rewarded for being patient.

"A pretty good warm-up is on its way," said Cragg. "With temperatures potentially getting up to the zero-mark by mid-next week."

Until then, the southeast could see daytime highs near -20 degrees.

Environment Canada recommends those heading outside dress warmly and dress in layers. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

They say to cover up as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill.

Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle if travelling, such as extra blankets and jumper cables.

And a reminder that if it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.
