This past week, the Weyburn Police Service dealt with cases of stolen bicycles, a considerable amount of phone scams and a vehicle colliding with a building.

Weyburn Police Service is seeking the public’s help with any information leading to the recovery of two bicycles reported stolen on July 12. One is described as a SITS brand with gold and black handlebars. The other is described as a red BMX-style with black pegs and a raised seat. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the bikes should contact the WPS.

A surprising total of nine complaints of telephone scams and fraud were reported to the Weyburn Police last week.

“It certainly is a lot for one week,” said Deputy Police Chief, Rod Stafford. “We’ve discovered not only in Weyburn, but within the province and the country, that these things are very under-reported, so when we have nine reports, we’re pretty confident that there’s many more instances that have happened in the city where for whatever reason, people have chosen not to pick up the phone and call us.”

Police are still investigating the case of a vehicle having collided with a building on July 12.

“It wasn’t a case of drunk driving, alcohol was not involved at all,” explained Stafford. “It just appears to be a momentary lapse in judgment, that resulted in the vehicle lurching forward, striking the building.”

He added that there were no injuries reported, but there was significant damage done to the building, and only minor damage done to the vehicle.
