A local Weyburn runner is putting her endurance to the test, but for a good cause. Due to restrictions this year, Farm Credit Canada could not do their normal Drive Away Hunger fundraiser for local food banks. However, to help support this, Alexandra Clark decided to raise funds in exchange for kilometers. For every $25 raised, Clark said she would run one kilometer.

Clark ended up raising around $1,400 in total, resulting in 56 kilometers to run.

"Our company, Farm Credit Canada, usually does Drive Away Hunger in the fall and due to COVID-19 precautions are a little different this year," Clark explained. "I just know that the food banks, especially locally, are hungry for the donations due to the lack of donations coming in and increased usage."

She started her run around noon yesterday, meeting up with the Weyburn Run Club before taking part in their trail run. Clark is one of the co-founders of the club.

"I do normally run but usually my max is around 25km, so it's a bit of a test for both myself and raising money for the food bank," she added.

All the funds that were raised will be going towards local food banks, helping those in and around Weyburn who need it. While Drive Away Hunger will not be operating as it used to due to restrictions from COVID-19, Clark believes this was a great way to raise money and test herself.

"I'm part of agriculture and our mission is feeding the world, so feeding people locally hits closer to home," Clark concluded. "There's no reason people shouldn't have access to food when there are people who are able to splurge money on food."
