Many young ambassadors of diabetes were at the City Centre Mall on Sunday. Weyburn's 9th Annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk saw young and old to support this cause and raise awareness.

"Words cannot explain how difficult it is to watch your child struggle every day just to live a normal life, but I can say that on days like today that I am reminded that we are not alone in this struggle, I am humbled by the support of my family, friends and community," says Trina Kopec, one of the organizers of the event. "Over the years we have been able to raise of $200,000 to help find a cure for diabetes."

The event was made a success thanks to all the businesses and citizens of Weyburn who donated time and money to the worthy cause.

Mayor Roy and Weyburn Red Wings Captain Mike Eskra spoke at the event. The Red Wings wore their jersey's as they walked around the mall with the other participants.

"It's really a serious thing and there were days that you could just tell he was off on the ice, now I understand that it is a very serious illness, I think we're on the right track though, as long as people like everyone out here keeps supporting and coming to such a great event there are really great things in the future," says Mike Eskra, Captain of the Weyburn Red Wings.

There was face painting, a bouncy castle, raffles and a silent auction, as well as food.

Type 1 Diabetes is unpreventable and impacts those who suffer from it on a daily basis.

"By being here with your support you're giving hope to those that suffer and there will be an end to finger pokes, needles, eating restrictions and severe health risks," says Kopec.

The hope is to one day find a cure and cause for the disease. The event raised just over $24,000 this year.
