The Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division Board has two empty seats after their occupants stepped down towards the end of 2017. The By-election to fill those seats has been called for March 7th.

Norma Hewitt Lendrum and Brandon Tichkowsky are the candidates running for the one Weyburn seat.

Tichkowsky was on the School Board in 2003-2004.

"I've always enjoyed politics and being on the school board," said Tichkowsky.

"I am always interested in getting involved in the community, I have been involved in various things. I would also like to be involved in giving direction to our schools and our division and how it moulds our students but also the relationship between the schools and our community ."

He added his desire is that the local schools are open and transparent and involved in our community and the community to be involved in the schools.

"There are some things that have come up recently in the high school that I'm not too sure if things have been as transparent in the community," added Tichkowsky.

Hewitt-Lendrum has not been on the board before but says she has always been interested in doing it.

"I think Education is a really important part of a number of other problems in society. If we can educate our children properly and well then they'll do much better in the future for mental health issues, or drug addiction or poverty," explained Hewitt-Lendrum.

"I want to see if I can do my part to help educate them in the best manner possible," added Hewitt-Lendrum who is interested in the place of technology and education having owned a computer company in the past.

Jim Vermeesch and Kevin Reid are running against each other for the Estevan seat.
