Hurricane Ophelia, a category one storm, hit the British Isles yesterday. It has been said the storm was the worst to ever hit Ireland.

"It was crazy the winds were up, pretty well since noon all the way through the night. We had some pretty massive damage to the grounds here while the road is actually blocked off, cars cant get through anymore because half a tree just split," Weyburn's Rekina Browatzke, serving as a missionary on a NET team in Ireland working with young people for the year.

Browatzke lives in the City of Waterford, County Waterford, in the south east of Ireland.

"The part where I am at in Waterford was actually under a red warning, which is the highest level possible you can be."

"A couple of people we know had their power knocked out by a tree, so they're running on a generator till they can get that fixed."

Browatzke added that there's been a lot of damage to the trees around the property and in the city.

There have been three deaths in Ireland caused by Hurricane Ophelia. Winds reportedly reached 148 kph.

Browatzke is serving on a team with people from different countries around the world.

"There was a lot of wind, a lot of rain, a few of the larger branches of the trees fell down," said Courtney Holbrook, a NET team member from Dallas, Texas, who added that some people in the community are without water.

One of the team members had a different approach to the storm.

"I wouldn't say mild but it wasn't that bad. Me and one of the other guys from the team actually put on our bathing suits and started sliding around in the grass."

Browatzke and the team are safe and enjoying their time with NET.
