Weyburn Comprehensive School students had the opportunity to meet former Premier Brad Wall Tuesday evening at the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame in Regina.

"Ten of my current Entrepreneurship students and a few from last semesters class accompanied me to Regina and the event introduced Brad Wall, Former Premier of Saskatchewan, into the Business Hall of Fame," explained Margot Arnold, Entrepreneurship Teacher, Weyburn Comprehensive School.

The three companies from the current semester of Entrepreneurship Class were able to set up a table at the Banquet for the attendees to purchase the products. Alongside Former Premier Wall, the Mayor of Regina and other politicians and business owners were present at the event.

There were three former Junior Achievement people give their view on what Junior Achievement has done for them including a business student from the U of R, A grade 12 student from Regina and a young woman from RBC Investments from Moose Jaw. They were able to attribute their success to their time with Junior Achievement.

Arnold went on to explain how she originally came to be involved in running Junior Achievement.

"Back in 2014, I was approached by the Department of Education to see if I would introduce it." She now says they would never go back to textbooks and activities and assignments.

"This gives them a real-life hands-on experience in a safe environment where they can try anything. If it works, great, if it doesn't its a greater learning experience in a safe way."

Arnold has students excited to go on to business as a post-secondary education level.

The Business Hall of Fame normally hands out scholarships at the event which happened on Tuesday but due to the induction of Wall, the scholarships will be handed out at graduation time.

The deadline for team awards and individual awards is the end of May.

"I think it's a different class, it's very hands-on and I always inspire my students and try to encourage them to go outside their comfort zone, that's where you're going to grow. I push them and encourage them and open the door and hope they walk through," answered Arnold to the question why Weyburn Students have taken to Junior Achievement and had success with it.

There is a trade show at Knox Hall on April 28th where the three companies will have their products on sale.

Arnolds Entrepreneurship class has grown from one a year class a year to two with a waiting list. In recent years two Weyburn JA companies from WCS have won at the national JA Championships, the only school to have ever done so.
