Despite the current pandemic, Weyburn Tourism offered insight as to things you can still do without having to travel very far. While many people have spent their entire lives in Weyburn, there are still things they may not know are available.

"Weyburn Tourism wants the public to understand that there is still lots available for everyone to do, even during COVID-19 and self-distance," explained Twila, "There's a lot of things our residents can do and a lot of places they can visit."

To help the public get some ideas on things they can enjoy, Weyburn Tourism has introduced "Social Media Takeovers" on their Instagram account.

"In our first takeover, we allowed the Weyburn Golf Course to take over our Instagram page the day prior to them opening. So they gave everyone an impression on what the golf course looked like and what their pro-shop was offering and some of the restrictions that were taking place within the course. By putting that on our Instagram page, it gives them an opportunity to reach more people. The idea is to 'spread the net', so to speak." said Twila.

In fact, a takeover is currently happening today.

Twila explained, "Today we are allowing the Weyburn Run Club to take over our page. That will give people an impression of how easy it is to be active outside, especially since we have so many beautiful parks and trails that are still open to the public."

The goal of these takeovers is to lead up to Weyburn Tourism's 'Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown' campaign that recurs each summer.

"These Instagram takeovers are kind of leading up to that campaign because we want to promote our community having more stay-cations this summer, obviously because of the restrictions, and enjoying what Weyburn has to offer; even during a pandemic."

Twila also unexpectedly dropped a sneak peek into a revamp of the Crocus Tour.

"So the Crocus Tour is about five kilometers long, its a walking tour, and it features some of Weyburn's most well-known attractions including Signal Hill Arts Centre, the water tower, the home of W.O. Mitchell, and there's also some legendary tales told associated with some haunted places that are quite famous, too."

The kicker is that this will all now be app-driven.

"So as you walk or ride your bike, it will sense where you are and it will automatically start telling the stories! So we will be kicking that off in the next couple of weeks when people are going to be looking for additional things to enjoy"

Weyburn Tourism is doing everything they can to celebrate what we have rather than focus on the negative things currently affecting everyone during the pandemic. Follow along with Weyburn Tourism on Instagram to stay up to date.
