Brace yourselves, Weyburn. A winter storm is coming.

Environment Canada issued a winter storm watch Thursday morning, as a system is expected to sweep through the region. It was updated to a storm warning by the afternoon. With it will be high winds, gusting from the southeast upwards of 60 kilometres an hour, and around 10 centimetres of snow. The temperature, though, will remain around 0°, which means conditions could be quite ugly at times.

Terri Laing is a warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada. She is expecting the storm won’t linger around for too long.

“It’s actually going to blow through relatively fast,” she explained. “It looks like the first of the  snow will probably start moving in first thing in the morning towards dawn, or in there, and last through the morning, and it looks like by evening time it will have blown into Manitoba.”

There is a silver lining to the forecast, though. After the system moves through, sunshine and seasonal temperatures are expected. Environment Canada is calling for daytime high’s around 4° or warmer to start off next week.
