The Weyburn Therapeutic Animal Park has set a date for a Work Bee this Sunday, June 24.

“We’re asking for people to come out,” said volunteer organizer Melanie Ror. “Anybody who wants to volunteer their time.”

Ror said that she is hoping anyone who is interested in helping with chores at the park on an ongoing basis is being asked to come to the work bee.

“We’re going to be out there from 9 to 5 that day, or until the work gets done,” “So we’re going to try to meet out there first thing in the morning. You don’t have to come out for the whole day, but we’d like to have some volunteers come out for a couple of hours at a time. Do a task, or however much you’d like to do.”

Ror said the tasks will include painting, cleaning up garbage, sweeping, and some minor repairs.

“Just a whole different array of things that need to be done,” said Ror.

The park organizers are also looking for some farmers who may be interested in loaning some animals for the season.

“We’ll take care of them at the park until the end of September, if they’re a good fit for the park,” she said. “And then they’d return back to their farms for the winter.”

Some animals are already there for the season. Steadfast volunteer park manager Don Sealy is planning on bringing in some peacocks soon. Already in residence at the park are two miniature ponies and some goats.

Coco and Lillie aren't just miniature horses, and they're not just ponies, they're miniature ponies. You have to visit them to believe how small they truly are.
