It has long been rumoured to be one of the worst things to do to a car, rendering it absolutely inoperable - putting sugar in the gas tank. Turns out, it is more of an inconvenience to the owner of the vehicle as opposed to a catastrophic event resulting in a seized engine. Nonetheless, it is still very illegal.

The Weyburn Police Service is investigating a report of someone pouring sugar into the gas tank of a vehicle parked on the 1800 block of Coteau Avenue. It is the latest incident involving mischief and vehicles in the city.

“This one this week is a little different, so we don’t know if it’s an outlier, or the same group just a bit of a different M.O.,” explained Weyburn Police Service Deputy Chief Rod Stafford. The previous incidents Stafford referenced occurred in the previous week and saw vehicles being defaced by an unidentified person or persons.

Stafford said police tend to see a cycle of incidents such as these, and the summer happens to be a time when it becomes more frequent.

Anyone with information about any of the incidents involving mischief and vehicles is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
