RCMP say there is no danger to the public, as they continue their investigation into the suspicious death of a woman in Yellow Grass on Thursday.

Her body was discovered after the Yellow Grass Fire Department responded to a call about a house fire at 307 Brome Street in the town of 440, 28 kilometres northwest of Weyburn on HIghway 39.*

As of Saturday morning, police had not issued any new information, beyond the brief statement they had issued Friday morning:

On Thursday April 20, 2017 at 8:40 p.m., Milestone RCMP along with Fire Services and EMS responded to a complaint of a fire at a residence in Yellow Grass, SK. An adult female was located at the residence and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her death is considered suspicious. The fire is now out.

There is no risk to public safety. The investigation is in its early stages, when we have further information to release, we will send it to all media agencies. We expect the next update will be available mid-afternoon today.

While we recognize the public interest associated to an investigation like this, we are asking media agencies and the public to please refrain from posting the name of the deceased at this time to allow for next of kin to be notified. We thank you for your assistance.

Later on Friday, another brief statement from the RCMP said there was no further information to release.

While the identity of the victim appears to be known to many residents of the Yellow Grass and Weyburn region, RCMP have not released her name.

Sources close to the victim believe  the woman was murdered. 

*Correction: Earlier version of this story said Milestone Fire Department responded. Despite RCMP statement, it was in fact Yellow Grass department which responded.
