The Young Fellows had a busy and generous afternoon Thursday. They made donations to two City of Weyburn children's programs. The first of the two cheque presentations was received by Tina Clay, Aquatics Manager, Weyburn Leisure Centre.

"Ever since I can remember the Weyburn Young Fellows has been sponsoring the Red Cross Swim at School program for Grades 3 and 5 for the elementary schools in Weyburn."

The donation to the Swim at School Program was for $9,905.

This year, the program gives 283 students an opportunity to spend eight sessions in the leisure centre in April and May improving their swimming skills.

The second donation went to the Arts and Culture May Clay program. The Young Fellows donated $1,000.

"It's basically a program for students to build something out of clay. We find that supporting the arts is just a really great way to give back to the community," explained Ryan Bachmier, President, Weyburn Young Fellows.

Alice Neufeld, Director of Arts and Culture for the City of Weyburn received the presentation from the Young Fellows.

"It's great for the children who have never participated in clay. It allows them to check out our pottery studio and work with clay, something they have not always had the chance to do, so it's very exciting. And a lot of times these kids take such an interest in it they will come back for future classes."

Neufeld added the classes are always filled up in May. Children attend the May Clay program from Kindergarten to Grade 9.

This is the 25th year of the May Clay program. Neufeld said the Young Fellows have sponsored the program for at least the last 20 of those years.

The children this year will be making monsters in the May Clay program. There will be a display of all the monster projects in the first two weeks of June at Signal Hill Arts Centre.
