The Weyburn Red Wings, coming off a tough weekend against Melfort, are back on the road today to prepare for their game against the Humboldt Broncos.

“You know, it's good to get right back at it,” said Head Coach Cody Mapes. “You don't want to sit and dwell on a weekend that maybe could have could have gone a little better. But in saying that I think there's a lot of positives out of the weekend too. But it's good to get right back at it against a real good team here.”

Mapes also noted that their next few games are against some of the top SJHL teams and that will really give the team a sense of how they line up compared to other teams.

“After these ten days or so here we're going to know where we kind of fit in. What we what we need to do and where we need to improve and I think it's definitely a good test. Humboldt is always a very competitive team and they're always at the top of the standings and they're a very quick team that can score in bunches. And so, I mean, we have to make sure that we're ready to go and that we compete right from the opening puck drop.”

He added that while they may be coming off a rough weekend, there have been a few things that have impressed him so far this season.

“We were hoping that our vets coming in were going to step up and you know some of the guys that we added were going to be able to help contribute. And I think there's definitely been some guys that have done that. I mean Maharaj has obviously hit the score sheet right away. Elijah Anderson really took off here again this weekend, he's been good. And then obviously, our goaltending has been good. We always thought our back end was going to be good, and if we can continue to find a way to score enough, then I think we're going to be pretty successful because I do think our back end and goaltending is very good.”

The Weyburn Red Wings will be facing off against the Humboldt Broncos tonight, Oct. 11th. Puck drop goes just after 7:00 p.m. and you will be able to catch all the action on Great Plains Ford Red Wing Radio Big 106 starting with the pregame show at 6:45.
