Collections for Envision Counselling and Support Centre's annual Gift Card Drive will begin on November 28th, coinciding with the International Day of Giving. On this 'Giving Tuesday', your donation of gift cards will empower clients seeking mental health services, or those escaping abusive environments, aiding in their journey to receive the care they need. Although Envision will always accept donations from the community, Communications Specialist Raven Daer says that the organization is placing a priority on the campaign now in order to prepare for the coming holiday season.

"These gift cards will help the individuals and families that we serve at Envision that we have identified as being unable to meet their basic needs. Whether that be food, warm clothes, gifts for the children, or even gas for the car to help them get to and from appointments, these gift cards really help fill the gaps that these families may be experiencing during this colder holiday season."

Gift cards provide a convenient and effective way for Envision to assist their clients in need, while creating an added sense of autonomy and empowerment to their journey. Some might find themselves in an emergency situation, having fled a relationship to seek safety, and may need to acquire essentials such as baby supplies, clothing, or fuel to reach a safer environment. Because the needs of clients are dependent on each individual, it is recommended to donate gift cards for stores that can meet as many needs as possible.

"Typically, we look for gift cards in terms of groceries, gas and home necessities. That could be Walmart, No Frills. Co-op, Wholesale Club and that sort of thing. The preferred stores are those with both gas and grocery services."

This year, there are three ways to participate in the Gift Card Drive. Donors can deliver their gift cards to the Envision Counselling offices in Weyburn, Estevan, or Carlyle, but it is recommended to call ahead and make drop-off arrangements beforehand. They can mail donations to the Envision Counselling office in Estevan, or they may choose to make a monetary donation online allowing Envision to distribute the funds to clients over the Holiday Season.

"When we are sitting with someone in our office who has just left an abusive relationship with nothing but the clothes they are wearing, it is incredibly powerful to be able to hand them a gift card to purchase items they need for themselves and their children. Whatever their situation or unique needs may be, being able to have these gift cards available to those we support is extremely impactful. To ese their face lift with a little hope. Together, this is what our community provides."
