A Radiothon will be underway next week for the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital in Saskatoon.

Weyburn's own Maverick Duffy, born with a heart condition, was chosen to be one of the eight 'miracle children' for this year's campaign.

His dad Connor Duffy shares a bit about their family's experience with the new hospital.

"It's a very important thing. When we were in the old hospital in Saskatoon, it was good, but it was extremely overcrowded, and lacking, in everything," he described. "Now, with the Jim Pattison, it's like, he's got his own room, he's got better equipment. It's just night and day better."

"The thing with Jim Pattison Hospital, it's the government really hasn't helped a whole lot with it, and it's nearly all privately-funded. Like there's lists of people on the wall who have donated to it on who help, and without them, we wouldn't have such a good hospital in Saskatchewan."

You will be able to listen to the Radiothon next Tuesday and Wednesday, November 9th and 10th, on AM 1190 and Magic 103.5 FM.

In the meantime, the Duffy family is raising funds for the big event.

For a donation of $2,500 or more, businesses can receive recognition on Maverick's personal fundraising page. Find that HERE.

"I'm not really like a genius when it comes to raising money," admitted Duffy. "I've never really done this before, and my wife and I were like, well, you know, we'll try [...] and see if we can do something to help the hospital, because quite frequently we go to Saskatoon with Maverick, and his sister [Fiona] as well."

Their fundraising goal is $10,000.

"We've raised, I think, just under three thousand right now," he shared. "We actually had, I think Taco Time in Regina donated $2,500, which was amazing. Maverick is sponsored by CP Rail, so whatever gets raised, CP Rail will match it 100 per cent."

We will share more of Maverick's and Fiona's journey next week during the Radiothon event.
