When you purchase a ticket in the 50/50 For Kids, brought to you by Don's Plumbing and Heating, in support of the Family Place, you help not just the Family Place, you help the whole community.

On location recently selling tickets, Executive Director Dawn Gutzke shared with us the plans with the new building, which will be opening later this summer.

"When you first walk into the new building, what you're going to see is a living room setting, so it's going to feel very much like home," she said. "We're going to have two large playrooms that families can access during regular open hours anytime, they're free of charge. We're also going to have an early learning resource room, which is new. That's part of the expansion with our partnership with Holly Family [Roman Catholic Separate School Division]. So we're really excited about bringing in the educational side of early learning for families to experience."

She said they've also got something exciting coming for everyone - a Beam Room.

"It's going to be a projector game, an interactive game that kids can play in a separate room. It's going to be a smaller room and the only thing in it is going to be a projector that shines straight from the ceiling and what it does is it beams down interactive games onto the floor, teaching children to be physically active while keeping their minds busy and focused."

Gutzke said the Beam Room will be open to the general public.

"Daycares can come on field trips if they want to use it. This is going to be free for the entire community to use."
