The regular seasons for hockey teams in and around Weyburn are getting set to wrap up. This includes the AAA and AA teams that represent the city. The provincial playdowns are also well underway.

Here is a look at some of the action from the weekend.

The U18 AAA Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings were on the road for their final two games of the regular season. They were in Wilcox to take on the Notre Dame Hounds Friday and Saturday.

Friday night, the Gold Wings found themselves in a close battle with the Hounds. In the third period, Paisley Arntsen scored on the power play, assisted by Ashton Bender and Addison Longmore. A late goal for the Hounds, though, with just 2:41 left to play, would give Notre Dame a 2-1 victory.

The Gold Wings, though, would lose forward Abby Manz for the rest of the weekend after she was given a match penalty in the first period of the game.

In the game Saturday, the Hounds came out firing, scoring two power play goals and a shorthanded goal en route to a 5-0 victory to close out the regular season for both teams.

The Gold Wings will now be waiting for the release of the playoff schedule to find out their opponent in the first round of the postseason.

The U15 AA Annugas Wings were at home for a pair of games to close out their regular season. Saturday, they took on the Swift Current Broncos, then played the Regina Aces on Sunday.

Aidan Mohan scored a pair of goals, while Jack Bell, Brody Morrice, Andrew Hemphill, Rhett Weichel and Daxer Schroeder also found the back of the net.

Then, Sunday would see the Wings in a close game with the Aces. Weyburn would take the lead in the first period thanks to a goal from Emerson Callander, but then two goals by the Aces in the second would give the visitors the lead. Weyburn would be unable to tie things up despite their best efforts, and the game ended 2-1.

The Wings hold the 8th and final playoff spot in the South Division of the SAAHL. They will now wait for the rest of the regular season to wrap up for other teams in the league to find out what their playoff schedule will look like.
