The city of Weyburn's Adopt-A-Planter program is in full bloom!

Discover Weyburn was able to capture the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) in action on Monday, planting flowers to help beautify the city of Weyburn.

Tyran Leatherdale, who works at the CMHA with the Vocational Work Crew, said that their planter is located out front of the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) building in Weyburn.

"Every year, the city of Weyburn gives us a gift card to be able to plant these planters. We had gotten $100 from the city of Weyburn in order to plant the planter right here in front of the RBC building."

Leatherdale shared that they planted petunias, marigolds, and some spike grass on Monday. These plants are hardy and can withstand hot, dry and windy weather.

"We have a couple of the staff from the CMHA building and we have a lot of the Vocational Work Crew out here helping us plant."

Leatherdale said that he's grateful and thankful to the city of Weyburn for giving them the opportunity to plant the planters and allow them to express themselves with flowers and other plants.

Participants in The Adopt-A-Planter program are responsible for the planting of the flowers and maintenance of the planter for the summer, while the city of Weyburn waters as needed. The city of Weyburn website states that each participant is assigned a downtown planter and their name will appear on a sign indicating they are “sponsoring and planting” this planter.

"We've done this for quite a few years and if you want to come check it out, it's right in front of the RBC building. It's the bench with the community blooms Adopt-A-Planter program and you can see our [CMHA] association right there [on the sign]."
