An art exhibition, "Like Flowers", was put together in March at Weyburn Comprehensive School to create awareness of the importance of being inclusive, respectful, and practice equity for everyone.

Art students and teachers made flowers representing each country of birth for everyone at WCS, using the colours of each country's flag.

"We decided to do it in March because March 21st is recognized as Anti-Racism day. It was put up during the Student-Led Conferences at the Comp," shared Coordinator of the Mental Health Capacity Building Program Maria Escobar.

flowersThe exhibit is currently on display in the library at WCS.

She said the exhibit will move to the Weyburn Public Library on Monday, April 15th, where the whole community will be able to view it.

"This project was important because it gives the students the values of being more inclusive and empathic with everyone, no matter where you are from, what traditions you have, what differences other ones have (whether is physical or mentally different from them)," she shared. "We can all experience racism and exclusion at some point of our life, that’s why the importance of understanding everyone else’s differences and understanding that those differences are what make us unique in this world."

Escobar added she wrote the following to encourage more reflection on this topic:
