Constable Jeff Bartsch of the Weyburn Police Service will be donning his full uniform once again to run in New Brunswick's Fredericton Marathon.

We caught up with Cst. Bartsch and he told Discover Weyburn how he's feeling leading up to the event.

"It's getting a little bit exciting, I know I'll be travelling out tomorrow afternoon and I'm just starting to process different emotions and reactions of being able to attend an event such as that and to run that event will be quite emotional and heartwarming for the community and for myself," Cst. Bartsch said.

Bartsch's main drive for running this year is in memory of officer and friend Constable Sarah Burns.

"It's a run to honour a really good friend of mine that had lost her life at work, in the line of duty last August the 10th in Fredericton, New Brunswick. I had some pretty important ties to her and the academy we both went to and I also know quite a few officers in Fredericton there, so its a way to give back to the officers that are working and to have a positive initiative for the community and the force there to reflect on what happened and to give some closure and a positive note to end on," he explained.

Sarah was sadly gunned down in a shooting, along with fellow officer Constable Robert Costello. The run itself is a tribute to not only Burns but all of Jeff's other colleagues and officers who he worked with on the Fredericton Police Force as well as the community as a whole.

The race will be on May 12 which, as we all know, is also Mother's Day. Sarah was a mother of 3 which Jeff notes adds to the significance of the run itself.

Be sure to send Jeff and your mother some love this weekend.
