The Weyburn branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association is pleased to announce the purchase of a new work truck for their Vocational Program.

"We had some vocational rehabilitation funding that we were able to designate towards the purchase of a truck," told Tasha Collins, Program Director for CMHA Weyburn. "We approached some businesses and clubs on sponsorship for the project and we did receive lots of local support."

She went on to thank all of the sponsors in the following audio:

With their Vocational Work Program, they provide many different services around the community including snow removal, landscaping, landfill trips, and various other cleaning and maintenance projects.

"This Vocational Program really provides an opportunity for our participants to be involved in some meaningful work while experiencing feelings of accomplishment and a sense of pride," Collins explained. "It really allows them to gain some really great experience, it helps with improving self-esteem and confidence, and it also provides a sense of belonging and responsibility that we all get from having jobs to do. So this really is a wonderful program and the CMHA Weyburn branch, our board of directors, and our participants are very thankful for the support we've received from our community."

The vehicle replacement came at the perfect time for CMHA Weyburn as their last vehicle was more than 18 years old and on its last leg.

The new truck has already been broken in by the crew as they have been doing snow removal around town and have made trips to the landfill as well. They also have more room in this vehicle which will allow them to spend less money on fuel from being able to take less frequent trips.

"It was a really great time for us to be able to invest in the future of our program as well as being able to serve our community through that vocational program well into the future," expressed Collins.

CMHA Weyburn is now looking forward and preparing for National Health Week which will be taking place during the first week in May of 2021.
