The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce last month held a giveaway contest wherein anyone who shopped at local businesses could submit receipts as their entry.

Donna Kopec was the winner of the $1,000 Chamber Bucks.

For the month of October, the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce, along with the Meet Weyburn campaign, introduced a new initiative to encourage locals to support local with a Chamber Bucks giveaway. If you purchased from a Chamber Member between October 1 and 31st.

Kopec shares how it looks.

"They're in 10 and $20 denominations, and I can spend them at a group of businesses that are all members of the Chamber of Commerce," she said.

Kopec noted she's sure it'll go pretty fast, being so close Christmastime, though her kids think she should spend it on herself.

"My grandkids, of course, I always tend to buy stuff for them. They get it anyway, though, so we'll have to see what I'll do with it," she shared. "It has to be used by a certain date, so I'll have to get thinking."

She said she just picked up the certificates this morning.

"But I'm sure it won't take long to figure out what I could buy in this time of year for Christmas. It'll go pretty fast."

Kopec said the only way to win is to play, and she entered the contest multiple times, as it's so easy to shop local in Weyburn.

"Pharmasave is really nice. It has a good variety of stuff that, if you're looking for a gift, you can always find something," she commented. "The General Store I like looking, browsing through. They're always kind of nice different things, local things people made."

The Chamber said they are very pleased with how often their office doors opened this past month, with receipts coming in. All these local purchases are strengthening our local economy.

"Congratulations to Donna Kopec. She has the opportunity to spend the $1,000 at many Weyburn Chamber businesses throughout the community," explained Larry Heggs, Executive Director of the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce.
