The City of Weyburn announced yesterday some changes to this year's Canada Day celebrations.

With the usual daytime pool party having been cancelled due to the current government restrictions on gathering sizes and distancing, the only celebratory event that will still be happening is everybody's favourite part, the fireworks.

The fireworks will be held at the usual location, which is the City's Exhibition Grounds around dusk, approximately 10:30 p.m. on July 1st.

The event is mainly possible due to the ability for those enjoying the fireworks to maintain physical distancing.

"Because they are fireworks, you have the ability to see them throughout town, which is great," said the Communications Coordinator with the City, Adam Hoffart. "So what we're asking is that people follow the provincial guidelines for gathering and physical distancing."

"Just make sure that you maintain that two metres, or that six feet in between cars and in between people, and just to really watch for those gathering sizes," he requested.

The maximum outdoor gathering size as of Monday will be 30 people, but with the Exhibition Grounds being empty due to no fair happening at the same time, there will be plenty of room for everyone.

"We just really want to make sure everybody is safe, and because it is the fireworks, we really don't all have to be in one centralized location, so it really doesn't bottleneck anything, and it is safe as long as everybody is following the protocols," Hoffart noted.
