A man who was injured in a police-involved shooting in Swift Current last Thursday is facing charges.  

Twenty-three-year-old Damian Gavin, from Swift Current, is facing 11 charges as a result of the incident. The charges include two counts of assault with a weapon, one count of assaulting a police officer, one count of uttering threats, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and six counts of failing to comply with orders. 

Gavin is scheduled to appear in Swift Current Provincial Court Monday morning. 

On Thursday, the RCMP responded to a report of an assault on Robert Street East in Swift Current. During the incident, shots were fired by the RCMP. The man who was shot suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the RCMP. He was taken to hospital by Swift Current EMS, while officers on the scene provided first aid until they arrived. 

As the shooting involved the RCMP, an external agency will be handling the investigation into the incident. The Saskatoon Police Service will conduct the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Saskatchewan RCMP have also requested the Ministry of Justice appoint an independent investigation observer, in accordance with the Saskatchewan Police Act.
