The City will perform hydrant flushing this week and next week as part of the clean-up process of Weyburn's water distribution system.

Users of the Weyburn Water Treatment Plant may detect higher than normal chlorine levels in their water this week.

The City of Weyburn is currently performing some cleaning on the inside of two reservoirs at the Water Treatment Plant. When that is complete they will be conducting flushing of water mains through hydrants.

"These cleaning and disinfection actions we need to take are mandated to us by the Ministry of Environment and it is part of the clean-up we need to do to lift the PDWA," says Director of Engineering for the City Rene Richard.

Richard says the cleaning and flushing of the reservoirs and distribution system should be complete by early next week. Until then, the Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory (PDWA) remains in effect.

Richard says the City is working hard to perform all the requirements the Ministry of Environment has given them since treated water from the Weyburn Water Treatment Plant tested positive for parasites cryptosporidium and giardia on February 25.

We will continue to update residents about the water situation as soon as new information becomes available.
