Employees with the City of Weyburn have been without a contract since their previous collective bargaining agreement expired at the end of 2016. The members of CUPE 90 are hoping the latest rounds of negotiations will help to bring resolution to the 15-month long process.

“Things have never taken this long in the past,” explained Sherri Blackburn, the acting president for CUPE 90. The union represents 87 employees of the City of Weyburn.

Blackburn cites the city using an out-of-town consultant as part of the reason for so little progress to have been made. The union and the city have held seven meetings so far, with the last meeting being held on February 15th.

Matthew Warren is the acting city manager for Weyburn.

“We’re always willing to meet at any time to move forward with our negotiations,” Warren said.

The two sides will be coming together next week to talk about the new collective agreement. They will be meeting on April 18th and 19th.
