It's a term being used in some locations, and so we can tell you that 'flake news' has arrived in Weyburn as well.

Snowflakes, that is. They are in the forecast for Southeast Saskatchewan.

That, and colder-than-normal temperatures are what stand between us and milder, spring conditions.

"We're still looking for cooler than normal temperatures to persist. But we're also watching another system making its way across the Rockies into southwestern Saskatchewan tonight, and spreading eastward through the night, and giving us a little bit of snow, as well." said Brian Bukoski of Environment Canada.

However, the meteorologist had some reassurances that the snowfall won't be anywhere near the horrific blizzard we experienced at the beginning of the week. "So, we're getting back to the snow, but it's not going to be accumalating like it did during the blizzard, that's for sure."

The official start of spring is a week from Monday, on March 20th. But, according to Bukoski, there will still be some weather between now then. "Spring-like conditions are in the offing, but not until middle of next week. We're looking at Tuesday, for another system coming through, bringing some warm air with it. So, we'll still have to wait through the weekend and into early next week before we get into the warmer temperatures."

However, above-zero temperatures are in the five-day forecast, beginning on Wednesday.

If all holds true, Weyburn will have gone from a blizzard, to freezing temperatures, to melting conditions in just 10 days. Not all that unusual, said Bukoski. " During spring, you know, we've got a lot of cold air coming down from the Arctic, and a lot of warm moist air coming in from the Pacific. So there can be that battle between warm and cold, so that's where we're seeing a lot of the contrasting temperatures and conditions."

So we will just have to be patient, waiting for a better spell of waether.
