It may sound like a corny idea for a fundraiser, but it's actually quite amazing.

All puns aside, this year's Ogema corn maze will raise funds for the local swimming pool.

Last year, corn maze maker and event organizer Kevin McKague was told he wouldn't be able to pull off the corn maze as a fundraiser. He did, and all proceeds went to the swimming pool and the Girl Guides.

"It's just a good event for families to get out this time of year, it's just before school starts," he said. "All the money will go towards a local charity, which this year is the local swimming pool."

He noted the importance of fundraising for community mainstays.

"It's always an ongoing thing to keep a swimming pool going. It's a big thing in the community. It's a big part of our regional park," he said.

This year, McKague has built twice the course as last year.

"Last year, to go through was probably around forty-five minutes, and this year is double the paths," he explained. "So, depending on how many dead-ends you hit and loop-de-loops, will depend on how long you take."

He added that there will be a photo opportunity for people as well as a mascot named King Cob.

Magic 103's Jessica Jack will have full blog coverage of the event.
