Weyburn City Council on Monday night voting in favour of changes to the City's Business License Bylaw structure.

"We did our research of our bylaws and found that no other municipality has two of them that regulates business licenses," explained City Manager Matthew Warren. "So a thought was to put it through to combine them into one bylaw, so we had City Clerk Richter go through and contact other municipalities and see what they had for bylaws and review classifications within our bylaws."

He said most of it's removing certain business classes from our business license bylaw, as there were more than 50. He noted a lot of things could fit into a certain criteria and be consolidated under one classification.

Bicycle licenses will increase from $5 to $10, Flea Market will be renamed Trade Show and the rate will be increased from $114 to $125 per show, the per year fee now increased from $197 to $250. Home Occupation will be increased from $132 to $200, and a few fees that were an odd amount have been increased/decreased to the nearest $5.

"This will have no change in what we do for revenues at all," Warren noted. "It'll just be more of an easier process for us to provide fees and to have a fee that's structured a little more appropriately for each one of those areas."

Currently the City of Weyburn three year average for all business licenses is 763 per year which is approximately a 50/50split between residential commercial and non-resident. The 2019 budgeted revenues for business licenses is $82,000, which should neither increase or decrease substantially with the bylaw changes presented.

The bylaw change was read three times and passed unanimously by Council.
