An announcement from the Saskatchewan government on the new hospital for Weyburn.

The design plans will soon be underway as Group2 Architecture Interior Design Ltd, a Saskatoon-based firm, has been selected as the design team for the new Weyburn and District General Hospital. They will be responsible for validating program requirements, refining cost estimates and preparing the design, construction and clinical specifications.

"A brand-new state-of-the-art hospital is something the people of Weyburn and area have been working toward for a long time," Education Minister and Weyburn-Big Muddy MLA Dustin Duncan said in a written release on behalf of Rural and Remote Health Minister Everett Hindley.  "We are so grateful to the community for the support and generosity they have shown to help make this project a reality."

The new hospital planned for Weyburn will be a 35-bed facility, with a 10-bed inpatient mental health unit and enhanced emergency services. This will include a heliport.

Once the design is underway, the next step will be to select a construction team. The procurement process for construction is expected to begin late this summer, with construction on the facility starting next year.
