Weyburn police said they are noticing a trend over the past few weeks.

"There seems to be a person or a group of people at work in the city stealing fuel," explained Deputy Chief Rod Stafford. "We've had a few reports of people's gas tanks being emptied while their vehicles were parked at their residences or other places in the city."

On February 27, police received a report about the theft of a partially-full fuel slip tank stolen from the back of a truck parked at a west side hotel. Stafford said while there has been an increase in fuel theft reports, this is the first they've seen where the whole tank was removed from the vehicle in recent memory.

"It appears that this is the work of one or more individuals and it certainly isn't an isolated incident."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service at 306-848-3250 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
