The Weyburn Red Wings will be looking to bounce back from last night’s loss when they take the ice against the Flin Flon Bombers tonight. It will be a tough challenge, though, as the Bombers are one of the hottest teams in the league, winning their last two, and eight of their last ten.

The Wings are a little beat up along the blue line, with a couple players out due to injury, as well as the call up of Mike Eskra to the WJAC Team Canada West selection camp. Rotating through four regular defensemen and Donavon Lumb, who moved back to the blue line from forward, the team did look a little bewildered at times last night, but should be able to get accustomed to the shorter bench in no time.

The goaltending of Flin Flon has been on point this season, with Zac Robidoux playing in fine form. He has posted an 8-2-0-2 record, with three shutouts so far this season, and his 2.16 GAA and .920 save percentage are strong as well. He has only dropped one game in his last six starts, and will be looking to continue the strong play on home ice tonight.

AT the other end, Weyburn will one again be looking to Shaun Fleming to get the job done between the pipes. Fleming was impressive last time he was in Flin Flon, stopping 65 of the 69 shots he faced in a 4-2 loss for Weyburn. Fleming, starting in the place of Carter Phair as of late, has been impressive, not giving up a regulation loss since November 4th. He will be looking to continue the strong play when the puck drops in the Zoo tonight.

Weyburn’s biggest weakness as of late has been the offensive play of the team. A complete lack of puck luck has prevented the Wings from putting up goals in bunches as of late. They will also be lacking two key components of the offense, with Jake Wozney on the bench for one more game as he serves a suspension, and Eskra away at WJAC camp. They will be looking to the others on the team, like Braden Mellon, Carson Rose, Ian Parker and Cole Woodliffe to step up and generate some offense against a stingy Flin Flon defense.

Playing in the Whitney Forum is always a challenge for teams. The crowd is always raucous, no matter the number of people in the stands, and they can help to sway the momentum. The moose leg, the horn, the cheers, the jeers – It all makes for an interesting atmosphere every time the Red Wings are in Flin Flon, the players will need to shut out the off-ice ambience, and concentrate on the game at hand to come out with the win.
