The Weyburn Red Wings will be looking to snap a two game losing streak when they take the ic tonight against the Nipawin Hawks. Despite dropping their past two games, the Wings are still in first in the Viterra Division with 24 points, and a game in hand on the second place Estevan Bruins. Nipawin is currently in second in the Sherwood Division, five points back of the Melfort Mustangs, who are also first overall in the league.

The Wings and Hawks met just under a week ago. Last Saturday, the Hawks picked up a 4-1 win over Weyburn. The Wings had taken an early lead in the matchup, but the Hawks answered with four unanswered goals, giving goaltender Carter Phair his first loss in regulation all season.

Since the game, the Wings have played just one more game, a 3-2 overtime loss Wednesday against the Melville Millionaires. As for the Hawks, they have been off since last Saturday, and tonight’s game is the first on a three game, three night road trip through southeast Saskatchewan.

In their previous match-ups, discipline was a key factor for both teams. In the game between the Wings and Hawks on October 21st, Nipawin allowed Weyburn to have 11 power plays. The Red Wings were able to convert on just one of those man advantages, though. On October 28th, in the game in Nipawin, the teams combined for 108 penalty minutes, with two fights, the most in one game so far this season for the Wings.

The Hawks will be looking to shore up the discipline in the game tonight, as Weyburn’s power play has been potent this season. Even better has been their penalty kill. It is the third best in the league, at 84.3%.

The puck drops on the game tonight at Crescent Point Place at 7:30 p.m.
