“It was really humbling, and really, really honouring, to go and shake his hand and have the Prime Minister thank you for doing such a good job. It was pretty incredible.”

Karen Kennedy-Allin described her experience when she received the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence in Ottawa last week. Kennedy-Allin was one of 17 educators from across Canada to receive the award and the only one from Saskatchewan.

In addition to receiving the honours, the educators spent three days taking part in workshops conducted by the recipients.

“After all the workshops I came back even more motivated, more energized to do more in my classrooms,” Kennedy-Allin added. “I gained so many new ideas and so many new things that I can do, and I just want to get better and evolve as a teacher even more.”

Kennedy-Allin is a science teacher at Weyburn Comprehensive School. She has been a teacher for more than 25 years.
