Local entertainer Richy Roy is at it again. He's using balloons in a big way, much like his full-size balloon car from a few months ago, which he used in his music video "Twist it - Richy Roy".

As usual, Roy has the help of his younger brother Preston.

"Preston and I are trying to create the world's largest balloon costume," shared Roy. "So, that means there's no other rods or supports or wires that normal, large balloon sculptures would have. It's created completely out of balloons that we would use to twist a regular balloon animal but this one is going to be close to anywhere from 13 to 15 feet tall and very wide."

They're hoping the costume, which took over 50 hours and 1,300 balloons to create, will break a world record. The brothers made the balloon costume for the Chamber of Commerce's Summer Parade, taking place today.

Preston and Richy Roy used an air compressor to fill over 1,300 balloons, which Preston said have about a 10 percent popping rate.

"It's something that we're going to be able to wear together. Preston will be able to be in one side of the balloon costume, I'm going to be in the other side of the balloon costume and we're actually going to be able to walk it down the street in the parade."

They chose the Minion character from the popular children's movie of the same name.

"A giant Minion, just like in the movie," explained Roy. "When he blows up to be about 50-feet tall as a monster and he's walking down the street at the end of the movie. We thought if we could recreate that during the parade that would be something to see."

The pair will employ a suspender system inside the balloon to control it, with one brother in each of the legs of the costume. Some four-foot Helium-filled balloons will help to keep the top half buoyant.

Roy said he began the paperwork to have the balloon costume tested as a world record breaker about 12 weeks ago. He said the current world record holding balloon costume is about nine feet tall. The costume is to be inspected and officially measured before the parade by impartial witnesses, with the results sent to Guinness World Records.
